5 key points to consider when moving seniors!
In recent years, De Jong Verhuizingen has increasingly specialized in senior relocations. Due to the aging population, there are more and more elderly people. We see that seniors generally need a little extra care and attention. That is why we present five key points to consider when moving seniors!
Point 1: Emptying the old home
For seniors, it is always difficult during a move to leave the old home in a proper and clean condition on their own. Therefore, make sure they don’t have to do this alone. One tip is to schedule several fixed dates when a small group can help empty and clean the old house as thoroughly as possible. In this case, many hands really do make light work!
Point 2: Extra services for seniors
It can be useful to offer additional services during a senior move. If a moving company provides these services, be sure to make use of them! This way, you can delegate various tasks to the moving company, such as guidance during the move and administrative preparations.

Point 3: Removing unnecessary household items
When moving to a new location, old belongings usually remain. For seniors, this often means moving to a smaller home. The leftover items then become a burden. Did you know that a moving company can simply remove unnecessary household goods for you? They carefully assess which items are left over. If the children or grandchildren do not want them, the remaining items are taken to a thrift store. If the thrift store is also not interested, the items are only then taken to the waste facility.

A move is much more than just transporting belongings from house A to house B. There is a lot more involved in making the process run smoothly. This includes many administrative tasks that must be completed on time. In the new home, there are still plenty of tasks to be completed before it can truly be used. If a moving company offers a “handyman service” for senior relocations, it is highly recommended to make use of it! With such a service, the moving company takes care of tasks such as connecting lights, hanging paintings, installing wardrobes, laying floors, connecting audio equipment, and hanging curtains and net curtains. This way, seniors and their often already busy family members no longer have to roll up their sleeves themselves and can simply relax in their new home!
